1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

3 RULES
This Regatta shall be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005-2008, the J/80 Class Rules, this Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions and any amendments thereto. Class Rules shall not be altered by the NOR or Sailing Instructions.
Boats shall comply with the Class Rules and the Designer and manufacturers original standards, which shall prevail in the event of conflict.
No national authority prescriptions will apply.
The event is designated Category C (Regulation 20 of ISAF Rules) for advertising purposes.
The official language is English.
4 ELIGIBILITY
The Regatta is open only to the members of J/80 Class as defined by the J/80 Class Rules and in compliance with their association for the year 2008.
Each J/80 National Class Association (NCA) shall confirm the membership of the competitors it is in charge of by governing the entry in the Measurement Website http://www.j80measurement.com.
Crew substitution during the event may only be done with the agreement of International Jury.
5 FEES
The Entry Fee is 300 €. The entry fee can only be paid by Credit Card (VISA or MASTERCARD).
The Entry fee includes:
- Boat weighing for measurement
- Putting on to the water and hauling out of the boat
- Berth in marina ( during the competition )
- Trailer storage
- Event T-Shirt
- Admittance to the Crew Dinner
6 ENTRY
Entries shall be made on the Official Entry Form only:
- Preferrably by Internet: Online-entries via Internet will be accepted only if the official entry form is being used. The form shall be filled in completely. The organizers shall be authorized to collect the entry fee electronically.
- Paper Mail: A completed and signed official form shall be sent to the organizers. The organizers shall be authorized to collect the entry fee electronically.
- FAX: Faxed entries will be accepted on the official entry form only. The organizers shall be authorized to collect the entry fee electronically.
Any entries without using the official form will not be accepted.
The Entry Form is valid only when the Entry Fee is paid fully.
Entry closes on June 9th, 2008.
Late entries will be accepted up to June 27th. An extra fee of 100 € will apply. The organizers reserve the right to accept entries in exceptional cases. An extra fee of 200 € will apply.
If entered the entry fee shall be paid, even if the entry is cancelled later, or the boat does not show up. Entry fees will not be refunded after entry closing date.
7 REGISTRATION
Registration shall be confirmed by the Organizing Authority as being complete at 10:00 on 9th July 2008 once the following formalities have been completed:
- Entry form and entry fee lodged with the Organizing Authority,
- Declaration of Confirmity on file with the Organizing Authority.
- Owner, charterer, and alternate helmsman dues for 2008 paid and on file with the International Class.
- Skipper and crew weighing complete. (Class rule Part III H5)
- Civil liability and media rights waivers signed lodged with the Organizing Authority.
- Measurement form filled in and lodged with the Organizing Authority.
- Crew classification
- "J/80 Owner Regatta Declaration" (class rule Part III H4).

8 Launching and Recovery.
Craning - Cleaning hull pad marks. During launching boats will be permitted to hang for one minute only to clean trailer pad marks off the hull.
Competitors shall supply their own tested centre point lift strop.
Boat recovery will commence after racing in predetermined order depending on the distance to travel after the event.

10 MEASUREMENT AND INSPECTION
Competitors shall be allocated a date and time for weighing of the boat, crew and sail measurement. All boats shall be made available accompanied by two owner's representatives during their scheduled boat weighing and sail measurement operations.
- Fundamental Measurement - Sails. All sails shall be fundamentally measured as detailed in ERS and class rules PRIOR to the event. They shall be certified in accordance with class rule G.2.2. and carry royalty tags in accordance with class rule G.2.3. Each J/80 National Class Association (NCA) shall present sail measurement certificates which comply with the J/80 International Class Rules by governing the entry in the Measurement Website http://www.j80measurement.com.
- Event Measurement - Sails. All sails to be used during the event shall be presented during the registration period to the measurement team.
- Boat Weighing and Rig Measurement. All boats shall be presented for weighing & measurement at the times in the programme schedule. Measurement outside of these times may be authorised in exceptional circumstances by the International Jury.
- Measurement outside the Registration Period. The Organisers reserve the right to conduct measurement or equipment checks, afloat or ashore before or after any race.
- Class Rules Compliance: Boats will be inspected for compliance with class rules D4 and C.4.2. (b)(ix).
- Crew weighing: will take place in the registration.
The final authority on all class rule issues will be Technical Committee.
11 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Will be available at the registration.
12 RACE AREAS AND COURSES
Sailing will take place on the Baltic Sea in front of Kiel-Schilksee.
Courses will be windward/leeward as diagrammed in the Sailing Instructions.
13 PENALTIES
A boat that may have broken a rule of Part 2 while racing may take a penalty by either making a "Two-Turn Penalty" by promptly making two turns in the same direction, including two tacks and two gybes (This modifies RRS 44.2)
14 INTERNATIONAL JURY
An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS Appendix N. Decisions shall be final in accordance with RRS 70.4.
15 SCORING
The number of races to be run each day shall remain at the discretion of the race Committee. The series will be valid if at least five races are completed.
The Low Point Scoring System as described in Appendix A4 of the RRS shall apply.
No more than 12 races will be run.
If 6 or more races are completed, the worst score shall be excluded.
16 PRIZES
Daily scoring at the end of each day's racing, prizes shall be awarded at the discretion of the KYC.
Overall scoring: during the closing ceremony, prizes shall be awarded to the first 8 boats.
17 BERTHING
Berths have been reserved for the event from 6th July 2008 to 13th July 2008. Berths for that period are included in the Entry Fee.
Each boat shall be allocated a specific berth. Boats shall be kept in their assigned places.
18 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS
Boats shall not be hauled during the regatta without written permission of the International Jury.
19 DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS.
Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around competitor's boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta.
20 RADIO COMMUNICATION
A boat shall neither make radio transmission while racing nor receive radio communication not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile phones.
The VHF Communication Channel used in the Race Areas will communicated in the Sailing Instructions.
21 SUPPORT BOATS
Support boats shall be registered with the event organisers prior to the start of the first race. They shall fly their Nationalflag and a sticker purchased from the event organisers.
22 INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid (and for the racing area suitable) third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 1,500,000 € per event or the equivalent.
23 MEDIA
The event Media Centre will be at the Regatta Headquarters. Media representatives and Television crews intending to attend or to cover the event are requested to register with regatta@KYC.de at the address listed in Contacts and Further Information.
The Organizing Authority may request, at no cost to competitors, the installation of GPS devices, onboard video cameras or similar equipment for the purposes of the official television production.
24 MEDIA RIGHTS
Competitors grant the following entities,

- German J/80 Class
- Representatives of the entities above
the right to exploit their image and that of their boat in text and video form to be broadcast by the press, television or internet (non-exhaustive list). The editorial or advertising content may freely use the competitor's names and biographies.
25 DISCLAIMER
Competitors agree to be bound by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005/2008, by the Sailing Instructions and the Notice of Race. The class rules as well as the regulations of the invitation to the competition and the sailing instructions are to be complied with and are expressly recognized.
The responsibility for the decision of a coxswain to participate in a race or to continue with it is solely with him; to that extent he also takes the responsibility for his crew. The coxswain is responsible for the qualification and the correct nautical conduct of his crew as well as for the suitability and the transport-safe condition of the registered boat.
Competitors agree to bear full responsibility for the nautical qualities of their yacht, the rigging, the crew's ability and the safety equipment. Competitors also agree to bear full responsibility for damage caused to third parties or to third party property to themselves or to their own property, ashore and at sea as a consequence of their participation in the regatta, relieving of any liability the KYC, the International Class J/80, the German Class J/80, all event sponsors and all persons involved in the organization.
Competitors shall bear full responsibility for the behaviour and dress of the yacht's crew, representatives and guests.
In cases of Force Majeure or on grounds of administrative orders or for safety reasons, the organizer is entitled to make changes in the realization of the event or to cancel the event. In these cases there does not exist any liability for compensation of the organizer to the participant.
In case of a violation of obligations that do not constitute primary respectively material contractual duties (cardinal obligations), the liability of the organizer, no matter because of which cause in law, for material and property damages of all kinds and their consequences that arise to the participant during or in connection with the participation in the event resulting from a conduct of the organizer, his representatives, servants or agents, is restricted to damages that were caused willfully or grossly negligent. When a violation of cardinal obligations occurs, in cases of simple negligence the liability of the organizer is limited to foreseeable, typically occurring damages. To the extent that the liability for damages of the organizer is excluded or restricted, the participant also relieves the staff - employees and representatives, agents, servants, sponsors and individuals who provide or drive salvage, safety or rescue vessels or assist with their use - from the individual liability for damages, as well as also all other individuals who were instructed to act in connection with the realization of the event.
The german law shall prevail.

ACCOMODATION
Competitors shall make their own accommodation arrangements.
To achieve maximum choice, especially with self-catering apartments, YOU ARE ADVISED TO BOOK ACCOMMODATION AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Kiel-Schilksee and Strande are popular holiday towns with a wide variety of accommodation including hotels, guest houses and self catering apartments, and a campsite.
The event has been timed to precede school holidays, thus increasing the choice.

Camping
A camping site for tents and caravans of the participants is available north of the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Centre.
Fees:
Caravans 5.- € to 20.- € per day
Tents 2.50 € to 15,- € per day plus the cost of electric power.
26.4 FURTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
Parking:
Sufficient parking space for cars and boattrailers is available near the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Centre. It is not permitted to leave cars and/or boat trailers in the harbor area.
Cranes:
Keel boats arriving by trailer may be launched and hauled out by the cranes in the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Centre only. During the event a craning fee for one launching and one haul-out is included in the entry fee.
Legal Issues:
The organizers draw your attention to the fact that the responsible driver of rubber- or other motorboats has to possess the Sportbootführerschein See or an equivalent license of his home country.
German law limits the maximum speed in Strander Bucht to 10 mph.
J/80 Charter.
A number of charter boats may be available through J/Boats Germany to foreign competitors. Preference will be given to
